Before letting it go, why not consider repairing it first?

Before becoming a designer, I was, and still am, a craftsperson—a seamstress.

I began working with sewing about twenty years ago. It was in a small alteration shop in Canada that I truly learned the craft of garment making and repair.

Every day, I spent more than seven hours at the sewing machine, repairing and altering clothes. Because of that experience, I developed the habit of repairing garments whenever possible and continuing to wear them, even when they became worn or damaged.

There is something sad about no longer being able to wear a favorite piece of clothing.

That is why, before letting a garment go, I always try to repair it first. There was a time when that was simply the natural thing to do.

Today, we live in an age where clothing can be purchased very inexpensively. Unfortunately, there are times when the cost of a repair is higher than the price of the garment itself.

But is that really enough reason to part with it?

It is a question that occasionally crosses my mind.

Of course, some forms of wear are unavoidable. Fabric can become thin or worn through friction over time.

Even so, I hope people will care for their clothes and wear them with consideration for as long as possible.

It is a wish that is very close to my heart.

No matter how little a garment may have cost, I hope we can first consider another option:

the choice not to let it go.

Aiguille & Ito, the brand founded by Yuriko, is currently taking shape, one step at a time.

Although it is still in the preparation stage, I am carefully building its foundations with the hope of one day bringing to life, through clothing, the thoughts, values, and atmosphere that I share here.

I hope to continue sharing this journey with you little by little, along with the reflections and inspirations that accompany me each day.

When the brand officially launches, I would also love to keep you updated on its progress and evolution through Instagram LIVE and other opportunities to connect.

If this resonates with you, a like or a follow on Instagram would be a wonderful encouragement and would mean a great deal to me as I continue this journey.

I hope you’ll enjoy following the story of Aiguille & Ito. ✨
