Clothes you won’t Want to Let Go of ~Treasures in Your Closet~

I am a member of a Japanese avant-garde community called Adi Commu.

Within the community, I serve as the leader of a fashion-focused group called « Cott & Style », where we gather to talk about clothing, fashion, and personal style.

Every Saturday, I share conversations and ideas about fashion, along with small insights that help us enjoy our clothes a little more.

Yesterday, I also hosted my very first stand.fm collaboration LIVE with Maru-chan.

Cott & Style
Fashion Talks with Maru-chan Vol. 1

We spent a relaxed hour talking not only about fashion, but also about our relationship with clothing, growing older, and finding our own sense of style.

Since it was our first collaboration, we began by simply getting to know each other.

Before we realized it, an entire hour had passed.

The theme of our conversation was « Our Fashion Journeys. »

Although our tastes are completely different, we looked back on how we each discovered fashion and how our styles have evolved over the years.

Maru-chan is someone who genuinely enjoys the simple act of getting dressed.

I have the feeling that this has never changed for her.

Finding clothes she loves, wearing them, and enjoying them.

I truly admire the way she values that simple joy.

As I listened to her, I imagined that she must have enjoyed fashion wholeheartedly even when she was younger.

At one point, she told me that she would like to try my personal styling consultation someday.

To be honest, I’m not sure she really needs one.

She already trusts her own instincts and freely enjoys the clothes she loves.

And I think that’s more than enough.

Still, since she expressed an interest, I’m looking forward to the opportunity to create a few styling ideas for her.

As for me, my own journey began when I discovered avant-garde fashion during my student years.

There was a time when I enjoyed making clothes alongside stylish friends from school.

To put it simply, I was deeply drawn to the world of Yoji Yamamoto.

Whether loose silhouettes or more fitted ones, his designs possess a certain purity and refinement.

They have a timeless quality that remains captivating no matter how much time passes.

What moves me about the work of great designers is not simply that their clothes last for many years.

It’s that people often choose not to throw them away.

Even when they are no longer worn, they are carefully kept and treasured.

To me, that is where true value lies.

Today, many mass-produced garments are consumed and discarded before their value is ever fully appreciated.

Of course, I am not saying that this is entirely wrong.

But I want to create clothes that encourage people to make a different choice—the choice not to throw them away.

That is why I want to select high-quality materials.

Why I want to pay attention even to the smallest details, such as buttons.

Refined, timeless basics may not immediately attract attention.

Yet they have the power to embrace the person who wears them and allow that person to shine.

When someone stands in front of a mirror, I want them to think:

« I like who I am today. »

I believe that when a garment can inspire that feeling, it will naturally be worn and cherished for a long time.

That is one of the reasons why, at Aiguille & Ito, I want to work with beautiful European fabrics.

Some people may think I overthink these things.

Yet it is undeniable that textile waste has a significant impact on our environment.

As someone who creates clothing, I do not want to look away from that reality.

Our conversation drifted far beyond fashion alone.

But there was one moment during the LIVE that made me especially happy.

Maru-chan herself used the words:

« Not throwing things away. »

When I heard her say that, I found myself thinking:

« Yes, that’s exactly the kind of clothing I want to create. »

It was a fun and relaxed conversation.

But for me, it was also an opportunity to reconnect with the very reason I started making clothes in the first place.

And to remind myself, once again, why I do what I do.

The brand is still in its preparation phase, before fully taking shape.

For now, I am taking the time to build strong foundations with care and patience, hoping that one day I will be able to share, through clothing, the same values, emotions, and philosophy that I express here.

I would love to continue sharing the different stages of this journey, as well as the thoughts and reflections that accompany me along the way.

When the brand officially launches, I would also be delighted to share its behind-the-scenes story and latest developments with you, including through Instagram Live sessions.

If this universe resonates with you, even a little, a like or a follow would be a wonderful encouragement as I continue to develop Aiguille & Ito.

Thank you for being part of this journey.
